Steven Barlett's net worth and entrepreneurship. Fake it until you make it?
He is worth around £71M and is one of the best sales people out there and this is exactly what entrepreneurship is all about. But is overstating a company valuation part of a strategy to generate even more interest and get more views?
I have banking experience as well as have been backed by top US VC's and have seen this sales strategy before.
He founded Social Chain 2014 and his website had previously said how he 'took his company public at 27 years old, reaching a market valuation of $600million before he resigned'. He also stated he had built a £300M business at 28 years old.
The company social chain was sold for £7.7M.
He is a great interviewer but having pitched to VC's myself many times faking it is part of the process and a its what a lot of founders do. The confusion could be this or something else we are not sure.
Learnings - fake it until you make it?
This could well be true. Ive been through top VC's and been in finance and often times selling yourself like this works. But high-quality investors will see through this and will be smart enough to know what is going on.
